I went to the counter with some interesting library finds.
First, the usual graphic novels.
Which, by the way, the library needs more of. I'm going to have to scout other locations to find more.
Second, a few art history and modern design gems.
Third, a book about the state of consciousness.

The guy noticed the pile in my arms.
And suggested I read more about noetic consciousness if I'm interested in those kinds of things.
A little library flirting if you ask me.

Things that currently making the anger in my mind spew out of my ears, nostrils, and follicles: (surprisingly, not my mouth)

-Broken phone. The inability to read text messages, dial a number, and screen my goddamn phone calls is driving me insane. Fuck you, broken phone! [I don't screen my calls and then selectively not answer. I still answer all calls.]
-Lack of funds. It has led me to consider jobs that pay between $9-$11. My college degree is squeamish.
-Unemployment. Companies are squeamish.
-Mood fluctuations. But it's okay. I control my rage in public areas/situations.
-Slowly deteriorating hand-illustration ability.
-Worrying leads to continuous nail-biting. Which leads to blood and band-aids.

Some start. 2008 is no fabulous year so far.

OKAY. Good stuff to cleanse our palate:

-Unemployment allows for more reading and movies...from the library and joox.net
-Been discovering and reading some eye-opening graphic novels. Also thanks to unemployment.

I have an observation that I would like to share with you:
Recently, there was a big local drug bust. Several bags of marijuana and cocaine. Almost worth $2 million. Street value.
The reporter stood next to a pile of plastic [ziploc] bags stuffed with drugs.
And I thought "I bet Ziploc is heavily dependent on the drug business. And they know it. They should produce special bags that are decoratively labeled:
-weed, reefer, pot, grass, hash, ganja, cannabis
-coke, dust, coca [for the south american market], snort, snow
Or Ziploc could take the conservative route and just label them "marijuana", "cocaine", and "cocaína".
Whatever. I don't care. If they hired me, I could give them more insightful advertising tips and make this branding sensation happen. But whatever.

Haven't blogged in a while...

So I figured, "Why not blog at 4 in the morning when I can't sleep, but should be sleeping?" ha.

It was only a few days ago that I felt really insignificant. Like a grain of sand at the beach. But now, I'm feeling a little better.

Life is unpredictable. And I appreciate that.
But sometimes..my emotions are also unpredictable.
I do not appreciate this.

People are unwilling if there is not money involved.
Only a very select few are willing

I haven't been out with my friends in a long time.
Just yesterday I went out and had fun with them.
My last summer break ever and I've disappointed myself. And my friends.
I can't believe I didn't know you had already left for the east coast.
I'm sorry, and I miss you.

I hate when depressing memories return to me for no reason.
Losing a friend is just too hard to cope with.
But it is possible.
I know it is.
I'm almost there.

Where does all the trash in the world go?
Nail clippings, banana peels, dead animals..

I honestly, (honestly) did not know that smiling makes others around you happy too.
I just don't like smiling alot.
But by no means am I a sad individual.
I always try to think positively.
Trust me.
The amount of negative thoughts that invade my mind have gradually decreased in the past 3 years.

Everyone has their problems. And they think that theirs is the worst situation.
Never say "worst" because anything can get worse.
Do you have clothes? Food? Shelter?
End of story.

Millions and millions of dollars are not important.

Every fountain I see...I want to jump into.

Do you know how fucking long I've wanted a tattoo?

I miss hanging out with friends.
Need more time. Now. Before it runs out.

I guess guys aren't attracted to girls who speak their mind.
So much for thinking otherwise.

If I could, I'd physically hurt you until you screamed for mercy.
But that's not going to happen because I'm nicer than that.
In the past, being mean was commonplace for me. Now, I've taught myself that being kind is very useful.

Such frustration?
How can it be cured?
Is there a some sort of mandrake, special potion, rabbit's foot, fermented organ that I can apply?

Never:
-judge others.
-eat spicy foods before a big outing.
-underestimate others.
-close mind.
-open mouth before thinking.
-bite more than you can chew.
-give 99%.
-give up.
-be passive.
-waste food.
-burn bridges.

When I'm angry, I get angry.
So don't test me.
It's not worth risking a friendship.

Must always carry an extra pen.
One pen is not enough.
Always seems to get misplaced.
Must write down thoughts, quotes, lyrics, names.

Time to sleep.

A few people I know have been talking more and more about Colbert and his wit. And I too have become an admirer of him. He's popping up in the things that I see and read more and more.
This weeks TIME asks Colbert who the next person of the year should be. To which he responds, "Jesus Christ. I'm a bit of a fan of Mark Bittman from the NY Times. I say "fan" because I love cooking shows and the way that Bittman gets quick to the point with his "shows" in the NY Times Video section. However, his NY (Times) arrogance really shines through at times. It's humorous. No, really. It really makes me chuckle. For example, when he condescends those who eat pancake-mix-pancakes and frozen pancakes...Some of us are not as talented as you, Mark.

Cold feet?

My mother has been talking to me about guys these days..my future...marriage to be specific.

"Marry late," she says. "Get a career first"

Personally, I'll marry whenever I want, whenever I feel like, and whenever I'm ready. And, of course, when the good man comes along. But these feelings do not compare with the feelings I get when I think of how much of a committment marriage is.

How can someone ever find that one person they know they want to spend their whole lives with? How does one make a decision like that? I'm yours forever. Wow. Marriage is no joke, huh? It really boggles me that we can find that one person in the universe that we want to spend eternity with.
I can't imagine my married self serving dinner. I fantasize and think about my future self alot, but this is not one of my fantasies. I can't imagine myself with a family. (That sound? That's my mother exploding with disappointment.)

I can see myself as a mingling singleton. An independent individual free to do whatever, whereever and whenever she wants. Not afraid of taking risks and embracing the world.

Milk your library!

Whenever I go to the school library, I always head to the new arrivals section first. (In a sense, it's become kind of like my own little tradition I have with the school.) A year ago, I found a book by Matt Madden. A comic book. And it was great! I recommend reading his other titles too. Dark humor. Not for children.

The best thing about browsing the new arrivals section is that you get to see all the latest books for all genres. On one wall. It's so awesome! (Sometimes, you find little gems hidden in the shelves. Next thing you know, you're checking out a book about african tribal art.) Thus, you don't have to go to the first floor for advertising, then the second floor for art, third for comics, and fourth for homicide. The worst part: walking back to the parking lot with five books in my backpack and five in my hands.

When breaks come about, I head to the library on the last day of school. (We pay to go to school...so we must milk it for all its worth. Use your school's resources!) Last break, I borrowed some books about advertising, graffiti, logos, and homicide. This break!...well...I decided to raid the comic section. I checked out this book The Adventures of Tony Millionaire's Sock Monkey and it was a great! I've always been aware of this sock monkey character, but I never really knew what it was all about. It's just plain weird. Strange storylines. But strange like: "Wow. That's so ingenious. How the hell did he come up with this plot?"

I love the way the characters talk:

"I have heard a theory which states that
if one jumps as high as ever one can
and then upon reaching the apex of the jump, one jumps again,
flight occurs!"

And this:

Leave off vexing me with your fantastical stories!"

I also checked out Too Much Coffee Man's Amusing Musings. Such a great read. It was super! It actually made me laugh physically. Not just in my head.

- shop less. If I had shopped less in 2006, I would have a few bills in my wallet right now..

I feel very indifferent to the new year this year. It happened very casually. Without any burst of excitement. Maybe y2k stole the thunder away from all potential new year's celebrations.
But, for sure, new things will be happening in 2007. The end of college, a new internship, and a commitment to Newspeak...for who knows how long. But I'm ready to dive deep!

It's all about people liking you for who you are. Cliche? I know. But it's so hard to be myself sometimes. And sometimes when I'm not myself, people like me more. I feel so limited. It must be my longing for acceptance...Screw that, bitch! I'm a rebel!
I can't let others affect the me I'm meant to become. Must..not..change...for..others.
Sometimes, I lie automatically. It just comes out, and while I'm lying I think to myself, "What are you doing?!?! Why did you do that???!?!!?" Yeah, that happens.
We just need to let ourselves go sometimes. Do whatever you want! If you're a big flirt, go ahead and flirt with that girl! If you want to wear revealing clothing, go ahead! If you're feeling a little low, go and get high! If I annoy you, just tell me! If you don't know the answer, just ask! The point is: I will not judge you. That's just who you are.

I don't like being shunned, and I'm sure you don't either.

Let's analyze "Bowling for Columbine" like you've never done before. (Taken from this week's philosophy lecture)

What is the question this movie is posing?

- What are the possible causes of gun violence in America?

Here are the possible causes that Moore presents.

1. Media- Moore points at music, movies, video games, and TV news.
- everything here is eliminated as a possible cause except for TV news.
- Marilyn Manson's violent music is blamed, but it's shown that Germany, the goth capital of the world, is not as gun crazy as us Yankees. Movies and video games...other countries watch and play the same ones as us.
2. Bowling
- just silly. This is eliminated due to the post hoc ergo propter hoc fallacy (after this, therefore because of this).
- just because the Columbine killers played bowling before killing... a little bit of Moore humor. ha
3. Children are ticking time bombs
- Just silly.
4. Foreign policy
- Has America's past history of using bombs and violence affected us and made us indifferent towards the harm that guns can inflict?
5. Access to guns
- Are guns easily accessible in the U.S.? Does someone get a gun for opening a bank account?
6. Violent history
- Has our violent history made guns an easily accepted part of our culture?
- Americans- our early residents loved to hunt and kill. They also loved to force the black man into slavery using those guns.
- Do guns just flow through American blood?
7. Fear

There was a blackout in my neighborhood...for about a half hour. I was checking my email and then my computer just shut down. First, I said to myself: "FUCK! I have a virus on my computer." Then...I noticed that my whole home was dark. Ooooooooh so it's a blackout. Good thing it's not a virus. I then told Lawrence the situation and the both of us used my cellphone as guidance as we searched for a flashlight. We did. The next thing I see when I turn around is Lawrence ready for action with walkie-talkies in each pocket, and a (plastic) sword slung on his back. I, naturally, laughed in his face. It's just a blackout Lawrence!

Going to the dentist is always a dreaded event. Two fillings done this morning and they are very sensitive to hot and cold food right now.

I was looking forward to margarita night on Friday...but now that I've got fillings...well...now I'm just plain sad and in pain. Not really pain. More like tingling.

Seriously, the dentist makes me so nervous. Even during the process, my lips and eyes quiver. I can't help it. So scared. However, my biggest cavity came out today. I still have two more fillings to do. If today was the worst of it, then I say, "Bring it on!"

Anyway, I cleaned up most of my photo folders today. My computer doesn't show it, but it's neatly organized. For the most part. Don't you just LOVE this photo?? It's been a heck of a long time since my last "really good" post.
I've just realized that my life has changed so much in the past month. Just way too much. My habits, my style...my interests.
Yoga is turning out to be more of a challenge than I expected. My first day of class left me with pain in my abdominal area and my legs. I shall still pursue it.
I had a dream last night...and somebody died. Someone very important to me. This is going to be on my mind for a while.

I want to get out. I've caught/seen three fucking spiders in the past five days. What the fuck is going on!? Fucking huge spiders...thick legs, black and brown.
